ABOUT THE PROJECT
This comprehensive renovation reimagined a charming mid-century ranch home with subtle cottage influences, creating spaces that honor the home's architectural character while embracing the homeowners' vibrant love of color. Every intervention was approached with sensitivity to the original architecture, from enhancements to the front entry and interior doors to the thoughtful transformation of the home's lower level and bathrooms.
The lower-level family room, overlooking a beautiful park setting, was envisioned as a cozy, library-inspired retreat that could seamlessly support everyday living, and entertaining. Rich custom walnut paneling, built-in bookcases, and a custom television console establish a warm and sophisticated backdrop, while heated stone flooring adds comfort and practicality. A curated mix of colorful furnishings, traditional silhouettes, and select vintage mid-century pieces creates a layered and collected aesthetic. Thoughtfully designed lighting—including recessed fixtures, picture lights, wall sconces, and table lamps—enhances the room's moody ambiance while providing flexibility for a variety of activities.
The utility spaces were completely reimagined to become both highly functional and welcoming extensions of the home. By relocating the furnace and water heater to an adjoining mechanical room, the laundry area was transformed into the central hub of the lower level. Designed to support laundry, storage, mudroom functions, and entertaining, the space incorporates custom cabinetry with a butler's pantry-inspired sink and serving area. Specialized storage solutions accommodate vacuums, ironing equipment, bulk food purchases, and household paper goods, while dedicated folding surfaces and a hanging bar improve everyday usability. A charming utility sink paired with a custom decorative sconce creates an unexpected focal point that elevates the room beyond its practical purpose.
The bathrooms were redesigned to maximize both luxury and functionality within their existing footprints. Beautiful tile installations, including terrazzo flooring, bring texture and personality to the spaces, while custom-built storage solutions provide exceptional organization. In the primary bathroom, thoughtful planning transformed a compact footprint into a highly efficient and elegant retreat, proving that even a small space can deliver both beauty and performance.
